Israeli Aging Program Comes to U.S.

Two large New York health and welfare organizations are forming a strategic partnership with Yad Sarah in Jerusalem to bring the group's innovative services for the elderly to the United States. Yad Sarah is a voluntary organization that loans various medical equipment, such as wheelchairs, crutches and bed pans to the public. They request only a nominal deposit for the equipment.

The Federation of Employment & Guidance Service (FEGS), which has more than 100 branches, is one partner and the other is the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council for Jewish Poverty (MetCouncil). The three organizations are now developing the mechanism for delivering the type of services Yad Sarah offers in Israel here in the U.S.

The project, funded entirely by American sources, will be called YSA (Yad Sarah in America). Target date for opening the center is the end of the summer 1999.
