Israeli and American Air Forces Begin Joint Exercise

(June 10, 2007)

With tension building between Iran and Israel, the Israeli Air Force has begun holding joint training excercises with visiting American pilots. Though the Israeli Defense Forces maintains that the excercises are part of a “multi-year working plan involving joint flights for the purpose of mutual learning” with no connection to the looming Iranian threat, reports in the Arab media speculate that the two events are indeed closely connected. Israel, which till today remains the only known nuclear power in the Middle East (though Israeli officials deny it), claims that such joint training exercises help strengthen the relationship between Israel and it's allies. In the words of defense analyst Alon Ben-David: “Israel has realized that the way froward is to operation within coalitions, rather than alone.”
