2008 Presidential Candidates' Views on the Middle East: Christopher Dodd

Iranian Threat:

[Criticizing Senator Hillary Clinton's vote in favor of the Senate resolution urging the President to label the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization, referencing a 2002 Congressional resolution on Iraq:] “What you didn't learn back in '02, you should've learned by now.” (Washington Post, October 31, 2007)

Radicalism:

“I can't think of another time in my career of public service when we've been in as much trouble as we are today because of, in my view, not only the actions of people like Hezbollah and Hamas and Iran and Syria, but because we have failed to build the relationships that allow us to have the kind of response in a moment like this that would make them have second thoughts about engaging in the actions they've been engaged in.” (Haaretz, July 2006)

Peace Process:

“It's important that we try and work with our friends in Israel, and Palestinian leaders (who are not part of Hamas), who are interested in a two-state solution and who are willing to sit down and talk about securing borders as well as providing for the proper needs of people in both communities.” (Haaretz, April 2006)
