U.S. Charity Assets Frozen

The U.S. Treasury froze the assets of an Arab charity it says is a front group for Palestinian terrorists.
The Treasury Department ordered U.S. banks Wednesday to block assets belonging to the al-Ihsan, or Elehssan, Society, and forbade Americans from donating to the group. The government says it is a front group for Islamic Jihad, which has carried out many terrorist attacks on Israelis.

The department did not estimate how much money the charity has funneled to Islamic Jihad, but said it made payments to families of Islamic Jihad members imprisoned in Israel or killed. The charity solicited donations on Web sites and recruited members for Islamic Jihad, the government said.
