Peace

  • To revive the peace process with the hope of reaching a lasting accord with Israel's neighbors on the basis of a two-state solution.
  • A peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians constitutes a security, economic, social, environmental, and ethical need.
  • Israeli-Palestinian peace (and Arab-Israeli peace at large) are necessary for Israel's security, prosperity, and stability as both a Jewish and democratic state.

Social Justice

Broad social agenda to make Israel a more just and egalitarian society based largely on formulations from Amir Peretz, Israel's leading politician on issues of social justice.

  • "Iron Dome for Social Justice" aims to reduce social inequities and restore equality of opportunity to Israelis.
  • Basic Law for Social Rights seeks to change the constitutional balance on social justice issues.
  • Initiatives such as increased minimum wage; new public housing infrastructure; and differential "value added tax" to reduce gaps between "haves" and "have-nots"
  • Cancel existing subsidies for West Bank settlements and ultra-Orthodox sectoral interests while increasing fees for mining of natural resources

Environmental Protection

  • Israel's Green Movement joined forces with Ha'Tnuah to advance an ambitious agenda of stability and restoration because Israel faces an ecological crisis with high air and water pollution, loss of open spaces, and decimation of natural resources.
  • Professor Alon Tal introduced a 25-point green program that is now part of Ha'Tnuah's platform. Several of the program's points include:
        i. establishment of 1 million dunams (an Ottoman Empire unit of land measurement still used in Israel today) of open spaces of nature reserves
ii. targeting national energy of 20% renewable sources by 2020
iii. transferring transportation energy allocations from highways to public transportation
iv. a new program to improve animal protection in Israel

Equal Miltary/National Service

  • Iintegration of all Israeli citizens into the military and workforce constitutes a social and economic imperative.
  • The present military/national service system exempts a growing number of 18 year-olds, especially those from religious households.
  • The national movement to require equal burden of service for all Israelis has joined Ha'Tnuah's 2013 Knesset list as candidates.

Religious Pluralism

  • Reestablish Israel as a free society respectful of different approaches to Jewish life and offering equal support to all streams of Judaism.
  • Orthodox hegemony over Jewish law in Israel is becoming increasingly oppresive of large segments of Israeli society partly because marriage and burial are overseen by a religious establishment that does not accomodate different perspectives.
