Ivry Named U.S. Ambassador

(October 27, 1999)

Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister David Levy have agreed that David Ivry will be appointed as Israel’s next ambassador to the United States. The Foreign Minister has informed Ambassador-designate Ivry of the decision and wished him success in his new post.

During their conversation, Foreign Minister Levy said that he is convinced Ivry, with his considerable experience and his intense familiarity with Israeli-American relations, will expertly fulfill his important mission and work to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Coincidentally, the U.S. last week announced its decision to replace Ambassador Edward Walker with former ambassador Martin Indyk, currently assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs.
