Joint Israel-PA Industrial Zone Initiated

The Israel Palestinian coordination office has initiated the creation of a joint industrial zone near the Sharon region that will join Israeli entrepreneurs and Palestinian workers.

The area, south of Tulkarm, is planned to provide jobs to unemployed Palestinians, on one hand, and improve security by raising living standards, on the other.

The area may eventually provide jobs for more than 5,000 Palestinians, and it will be enclosed inside a "sterile bubble" along the security fence, requiring security checks for entrance from either side.

A similar zone is currently administered by Israel near the Erez pass in the Gaza Strip; this one will be administered by the Palestinian Administration, thus evading minimal wage requirements in Israel.
