(November 10, 1999)

On November 10, 1999, 27-year-old Avraham Yitzhak became the first Ethiopian immigrant to earn an MD degree. Yitzhak graduated from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev's medical school in Beersheba. He is now an intern at nearby Soroka Hospital and will soon start his military service as an IDF physician. Yitzhak came to Israel in 1991 from Addis Ababa, three weeks before the Operation Solomon brought 15,000 Ethiopian Jews in a mass airlift.
