A study commissioned by the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra reported that 60 of the 123 active members of the orchestra were members of the Nazi party. Nearly 20 percent joined the party before 1938, while it was still banned.

A total of 13 musicians were forced to leave during the Nazi era for being Jewish or married to Jews; five were sent to their deaths in concentration camps and the rest were deported and never returned to Vienna.

The full report is now being translated into English.
