Intel Israel Reaches New Processor Milestone

Much of the world's most advanced computer technology has been designed and developed in Israel. Researchers at Intel's Israeli plants have been particularly productive and continually introduced new processors to boost the speed and power of computers. Now Intel's new Lachish-Kiryat Gat plant, one of only four Intel plants worldwide that use Intel's 0.18 manufacturing technology, has inaugurated regular production of the newest Pentium III processors, with a processing speed of up to 733 mhz. The processor was developed with tools supplied by Intel Haifa.

"This is another aspect of our breakthrough toward changing Israel's planning and manufacturing map," said Dov Fruhman, general manager of Intel Israel. "The innovations of the twenty-first century constitute a long-range contribution to the development of southern Israel and the growth of the Israeli economy."

The processors, which will have a range of 600 to 733 mhz, are the first to be manufactured by Intel Kiryat Gat. Once the plant starts full production in mid-2000, its daily output will consist of thousands of processors and its direct exports will come to about a billion dollars a year.
