Israel Wins Computer Chess Championship

An Israeli team won first prize in the 12th World Computer Chess Championship (WCCC) held at Bar-Ilan University in cooperation with the International Computer Games Association. The program, Deep Junior, created by Amir Ban and Shay Bushinsky, also also tied for third in the World Computer Speed Chess Championship. Deep Junior also won the world title in 2001 and 2002. The computer is most famous for a match with world chess champion Gary Kasparov. In 2003, Deep Junior and Kasparov each won one game and four games ended in draws, resulting in a 3-3 tie for the match.
