Adam was the first man, created by God. (Genesis 2:7). Man is described in the Torah as a likeness of God and also as a worker of the ground. From Adam's rib God formed his wife Eve (Genesis 2:21), and he placed the couple in the Garden of Eden. After eating from the forbidden fruit, both Adam and Eve were expelled (Genesis 3:17-24). As a punishment he was forced to work for a living and to die at the time God chooses. Adam and Eve had three children, two of whom were the famous pair of Cain and Abel and another son named Seth.
